A love letter

To my darling Husband, my most precious other half:

I have good news for you, my dear. News that will be music to your frugal soul.

Remember that slightly not-cheap paring knife that I lost a few days ago? Well, guess what. I found it! It is lost no more.

I know. I am extremely relieved, too.

Where was it, you say? You'll laugh yourself silly at this, darling, really you will. And you'll never guess where it was. It was in the pan of leftover quiche in the fridge. I must have used it to cut the quiche, and not noticed it there when I put the pan in the fridge that night after dinner.

I know, right? What a chuckle we'll have over this one.

My only regret, dearest one, is that we were not able to find the knife sooner.

Like, say, right about the time you were digging through the trash to look for it. Oh, what an adventure we could have saved you then, had we known.

But, all's well that ends well, or so they always say. And now you may rest well tonight, lovey, knowing the knife is back where she belongs.

Ever Yours,

Your darling wife, Christie

P.S. Please do not use it on me. I really thought it was in the trash. Honest, I did.

how much was this paring knife...it had to be a pretty penny...my sister has very expensive knives...she used to do catering. i know she would do the diving dump if she had too...and would of said worth looking for.

He is a good man to dig through the trash.

and yet, ANOTHER good husband story. Thank you for giving me more amo. Bless you. And THANK HEAVENS you found that knife, I mean, I would give up one of my children for those!

Woops. Highlight the fact that you didn't slice your finger open when you found it. He should be grateful.

Oh, digging through the trash. I really thought it was going to be found elsewhere, like under your pillow or in the bathroom drawer. I guess the fridge is okay, but it could've been somewhere much more interesting.

I was hoping that someone had accidentally been stabbed by it. I did that to Nathan the first year of our marriage. He got a massive infection and had to get antibiotics shot in his butt. He loves me for it.

This is where I'm like: "Hun, stop with the trash. It's REALLY not worth the $5 to dig through that trash, I promise. You are 34. You make a good income. We will NOT have a more secure retirement because you found the knife in the trash, instead of purchasing a new one."

But now you WILL have a more secure retirement, because you not only are eating leftover quiche, but don't have to purchase a new knife.

You guys are going to be so rich.

OK, so did he really notice it was missing?

So funny--twice we have lost our "not-cheap" paring knife and had to replace it. And yes, my only thought is that it ended up in the trash. So tell Josh he's not alone!

I have the same knives. Murray would dig through the trash for it too. Hahaha

At least he didn't have to dig through OUR trash. (2 kids in diapers, cat litter and dog poop in bags...)

I really think it would have killed him...

Splendid!!! Those (I can't remember how to spell them, Wusthof?) knives are so fabulous! I am so glad you found it! I think I should keep this post because it was so wonderfully written and...it is basically just a question of time until I will need it.

Kinda wish I had this beautifully written letter a couple of years ago when my husband had to dig through several bags of trash and LITERALLY dumpster dive at the church building to find our keys (that were on the piano in the Primary room) as we were cleaning up from a ward party. Silly me, I thought they had been thrown away with all of the disposable items on the table. Whoopsie daisy.

Those knives are so fabulous they are definitely worth a dumpster dive! Glad you found it. Maybe you should hide it in a super secret spot for the next week or so!

A few years ago I took my son to Burger King for lunch. When we finished eating I dumped the tray in the trash and started searching my pockets and purse for my car keys. I panicked!! oh no were they on the tray that i just dumped in the trash??? So I went back to that trash can to look. Oh my God, I had to dig thru the trash YUCK!!
could not find the keys! ( good thing the trash can was less than 1/4 full.) I WAS SOOOOOO EMBARRASSED!! It turns out I left my keys IN THE IGNITION!!!! good thing my son did not lock his car door.

That man of yours is a keeper. Ahhh... I have many "wild goose chase" stories to share. My poor husband has looked for so many things in the wrong places (thanks to me). And they still love us...

Husbands who travel deserve this kind of love letter.

Ha! I wondered where this post was going to go when its title was "A Love Letter" and there is a picture of a knife! Glad to know it wasn't what I thought. Hey, your husband must be glad that you cared enough about the knife and what it costs that you were willing to sacrafice his pleasant odor for it, right? I know my husband would, cheapskate that he is!

Christy said...

Just kidding, he's not a cheapskate.

When I saw the heading and the picture, I had to read on. I am truly NEVER disappointed...Always surprised! Love ya!

With the title of your post and the picture of the knife, I was expecting a love letter to the knife. They are pretty good knives and a love letter in that direction wouldn't be entirely inappropriate because of how much easier they make all of our slicing and dicing, but I enjoyed your real love letter to your real love, nonetheless.

Kinda reminds me of our skunk story... "No, honey... I have no idea how our trash ended up on the back porch." And yet, they still love us!

Abmit it-you knew where it was, you just wanted him to dig through the trash. That must be some knife!
