I saw on another blog (can't quite remember which one) a list of resolutions that I actually liked. It was not a list of new things that were going to be done this year, but a list of old habits that would NOT be done. I figure I generally give up on new habits after about a week, but could possibly work on not doing some less-desirable things I do instead.
So, for 2008:
I will not eat so much cookie dough.
I will not stop exercising, even though there is nothing on my TIVO because of the writer's strike.
I will not ignore the books on my nightstand anymore.
I will not start smoking.
I will not spend so much of my husband's hard-earned money on cheap plastic things at Target.
I will not criticize myself.
I will not compare myself to others.
I will not be afraid of learning Photoshop CS3 (especially if I can somehow learn how to erase all my freckles from pictures).
I will not say stupid substitute curse words like "frick" and "shite" anymore. (I can't promise I won't say the real ones instead, however).
I will not kill Sir-Croaks-A-Lot on purpose.
I will not expect perfection of myself or others.
So how about you? What are you NOT going to do this year?

I like your flip side resolutions, I think I can relate better to these kinds of statements -- they don't seem so overwhelming.
That is hilarious! I have never set a New Year's resolution in my life and see no reason to start now.
I'm with you on the Target one. I think my husband will appreciate it as well!
Oh my gosh, I laughed so hard at
"frick" and "shite" ha ha ha.
I will NOT feel guilt for the time I spend reading blogs, because it really does relax me and provides the knowledge I need to go on with my day with joy in my step. :)
I will not stop drinking Diet Cherry Coke.
I will not stop brushing my teeth.
I will not eat past 8 p.m. (frick)
I will not allow the abductor machine at the YMCA to cause fear in me, after not being able to walk for 2 days, the last time I used it.
Your new friend,
Kelly in Michigan
I will not stop eating.
I will not stop sleeping late.
I will not stop reading People.com
and I will not stop reading blogs.
I think its going to be a great year!
And, that picture is amazing! I have so many attmepts at glowy-sparkler-shots and they all end up too smokey!
Frick! You and Josh are totally king-n-queen of made-up words. The way you say 'em makes them sound even better than the real thing.
I love the last one. That'll be mine, too, now.
Heidi
love them! ...and hey frick is a favorite of mine... I have to keep that one!
You are so funny. I love the I will not start smoking. I'll do that one.
I need to make my own list. Much more do-able. Oh frick, doable is a made up word I think.
That was a GREAT New Year's Resolution list. I'm glad that you aren't going to start smoking! I'm also glad that you're still allowing yourself to eat cookie dough...that would be a sad thing to give up entirely! Also, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm pretty sure anywhere close to 8 kids is out of the question! Happy New Year!
Good ones- I like that you aren't going to criticize yourself. Yeah, don't do that please. I will try that one too.
I will not wait until I lose a dress size before I buy a dress that I really, really love!
Love you list. Very clever. I love the picture of your kids with sparklers. It is perfect.
I will not overcommit my time.
I will not feel guilty about seeing a movie in the middle of the day.
I will not stop myself from getting an occasional spa massage (got one for Christmas this year. Heaven.)
I will not stop blogging and reading blogs (well said by many other commenters above!)
Bring it on, 2008!
I will not stop mocking your stupid blog...
LOL! Love your list. And love DanandCindy. ;-)
Man, your resolution post TOTALLY beat mine.
I will not be jealous of bloggers that are more clever than I.
How's that.
I'm going to not start smoking, too.
I will not blog when I could be watching the newly returned DAVE LETTERMAN!!!
This was the first time I've heard the word "shite!" Maybe I should start using that instead of the real thing...Happy New Year!
Beat's me what I will not do this year, probably my laundry, but I did want to tell you I heard a bit on NPR about pet frogs--how most people categorize them in the "throw-away" pet department (self explanitory) but the, in fact, they can live an average of 18 years and up to 30. I laughed out loud thinking of you. Some poor mom had written in that she had been lugging around this frog for 20 years, all her kids have left the house, the other pets (dogs, cats, birds) have died and she was wondering when it was going to, uh, croak. Good luck with that Stie!
I won't fail to comment just because I can't think of anything clever to say.
Freaker.
I will not be so scared of my new camera that I fail to take any pictures.
I will not buy a new car. :(
I will feel bad about spending my husband's hard earned money to buy me something new and cute... and I will afford him the same luxury.
BTW - don't you dare touch those freckles... they are too cute!
PS Dan - you should sign up to be a writer for one of the late night shows... your one liners crack me up.
I will not yell at my brothers so much
I will not procrastinate on school things
I will not stop being obsessed with POMEGRANATES! :)
and most importantly.........
I WILL NEVER EVER DRINK, SMOKE, GET A TATTOO, OR... did i mention not stopping loving pomegranates?
Don't stop believing!
M-frog
Awesome list!
I can't possibly top anything on your list -awesome.
Love your list. FRICK, it's good!
Especially the "I will not stop exercising just because there's nothing on TIVO because of the writer's strike" one. I have about 25 old Ellen's to watch and for some reason, they're not putting me in the exercising mood. I will not stop!! Even if it means all I have to watch is HER.
I will not start smoking either.
I will not try so hard to run faster on my treadmill. (Who cares if I'm slow?)
I will not hate you for your perfect body on the treadmill! :)
I will not give up cookie dough, however. Ummm. Can't do.
i'm with you on the photoshop cs3! i got that and lightroom this christmas and both are still in the box because i am scared! i know it will do great things for my photography, but it just is so overwhelming! maybe we can encourage each other in our quest to learn how to use it!
love the sparkler picture! so cool!
