Lest we forget

Due to a tragic, colossal error on my part, I overlooked telling you about (according to The Husband) the most important part of our mini-holiday to Branson. No, the children frolicking on the shore of The Lake! was not the most important part. Our family spending quality time together? Nope. Not even getting out of our church talks could overshadow this monumental event that I somehow forgot to tell the internet about.

Did I forget because it was at the near-end of our journey, on the way home, and I was too busy basking in the glow of incredible fun we'd had together?

Apparently not.

I think I am probably still reeling from the trauma of the illegal U-turn made on the freeway -- not once -- but TWICE for this blessed event. Perhaps I was just trying to block it out and never think of it again.

So what was this most special part of our weekend that all of the internet must know about?

This:

Yeah, that's it.

While I am definitely awed at the sight of a bald eagle in the wild, I am afraid that my fear for our safety during the aforementioned two illegal freeway U-turns clouded my appreciation for nature of this sort.

Call me a wimp, but death by 18-wheeler just so I can catch a glimpse of a bald eagle isn't really a good trade off.

But that's just me.

All I have to say is...don't be expecting an invitation to join from the Audubon Society anytime soon.

Happy New Year! Loved the Christmas pictures.......great idea to run away. Wonder where Dad would like to go on the 27th. I loved the Nativity. The only thing missing was grandma and grandpa in the audience, and of course oma and opa. Dont' you agree Oma?

I'll bet Chase was in wildlife-loving heaven, though!

I'm forwarding this to the Missouri Highway Patrol department so they can have a little talk with your driver :)

That's great. Did you get Honda Solo up on two wheels as you were flipping that U turn? THAT would be cool.

Husbands have No IDEA what is important enough to make it on a blog. Anything from nature: NO. Anything from your child: Yes.

I wish you had a picture of the illegal FREEWAY U-Turn! That is pretty cool that you saw a bald eagle...how on earth did you see it while driving, anyway? Definitely not worth risking your lives, though!

WooHoo! My favorite Stie is back! I was wondering where you were, and now I know! I never would've guessed Branson but it looks like you had a wonderful time! What a great way to start the New Year.

How in the heck did he see that while he was driving? I think he wins worst-driver-in-the-family award...which is no small feat.

I'm surprised that you didn't stage photos of the illegal U-turn on the freeway, to be able to show your blog friends, and effectively tell the story...

Men are obviously wired differently--here's further proof.

I found you from Denae's blog. This reminded me of my first time seeing a bald eagle. My husband came home from work very excited and loaded all og us up with all the biaculars and hunting scopes and magnifying things he could find and then we drove all over on dirt road out into the middle of nowhere. Suddenly he pulls over and points at a tree, kinda similar to the one in your picture and we all looked at these little specks in the tree. It was great...or NOT! We were cold, unless you had something to look through you couldn't see them, and I have to admit, I expected something more...grand? It was a fun afternoon drive though.

I've enjoyed reading your blog.

I should be working but I'm still reading your blog! I too get very excited when I see a bald eagle. My good friend who lives about 5 minutes away had a pair of them build a nest in one of her trees last spring. They're back already - retooling the nest (they had one baby last year.) I'm such a nerd but I love seeing eagles, hawks, deer - anything wild that's not icky. And not in danger of attacking me. That's always a bonus. ;)
