Things I Learned Last Week

  • You bloggers have very decided opinions when discussing being on-time or late. I had no idea there was such strong feelings on the subject. (Note to self: Be more controversial).
  • Caramel bars make the Husband's Sunday school class a very happy place to be (recipe coming later this week, I promise).
  • Pulling my brand-new dryer out from the wall a little bit will quite miraculously reduce the time it takes to dry a load from one-and-a-half hours to about 36 minutes.
  • Doing this will cause me to swear out loud, and then wonder stupidly why I didn't do it a month ago.
  • In my mind, stockpiling my house with books makes up for the lack of food storage. What we'll eat in a crisis? I don't know. But books, we'll have in droves.
  • Watching my son pitch at his games and strike out several players is a very fun thing.
  • Unless you are the player getting struck out. Then it's probably not so fun.
  • Four-dollar-a-gallon gas prices will put a damper on the Husband's RV dream vacation this summer.
  • The aforementioned gas prices will force us to stay in nice hotels instead (which thus turns our trip into more of MY dream vacation).
  • My backyard has somehow become a bird sanctuary. Especially around five-thirty every morning when they converge right outside my window and speak to each other. AT THE TOP OF THEIR TINY BIRD LUNGS.
  • This is making me not like them so much anymore.
  • Self-given pedicures are against god's plan. When eagerly scraping dead skin off my heels, it is always a good idea to stop before the blood appears. Pain and suffering will surely follow, along with a solemn promise to never touch my own feet again.
  • Favorite thing this week: Good friends and tents in my backyard, warm chocolate chip cookies, and a few sunny days that make up for all the rain.

I hear you with the birds.. Unfortunately our back yard IS a bird sanctuary!!! And no one should ever have to give themselves a pedi...totally agreed...i hope you recover quickly from your "incident" it sounds horribly painful.

Has gas actually hit $4 where you are? We are close...about $3.88 here. Yuck. Seriously making me reconsider a summer driving trip.

I agree that we shouldn't give ourselves pedicures. That can lead to no good. Have my feet rubber and painted pretty sounds good right now.

Learning and growing....

Growing and learning....

Isn't that what it's all about. :0)

Glad to hear you had a tolerable week. :0)

1. My backyard is a big dirt pile. I would love to have birds! Instead I have lizards and bugs...

2. I am totally trying the dryer thing.

3. Every time someone mentions food storage I have a panic feeling in my stomach because we HAVE NONE. That's what happens when you move 40 times in 10 years...

And for 4.69 for a diesl truck which we never get to drive anymore because it's too much to fill up.
Noisy birds are annoying. I have some here too.
I get the feeling you are a chocolate chip cookie addict. We have SO much in common.

I like reading your "lessons learned". I too, am better at stockpiling books - this drives my husband crazy but, at least he doesn't have to build a shed, and then add onto the shed, in order to house all of my collections.

Yay for books, pedicures and expensive hotels! You are speaking my love language, Stie...

I'm with you on the early birds and gas prices. Ouch. I made chocolate chip cookies yesterday...I hear one calling my name...

Isn't gas outrageous! I love setting up tents in the backyard. I did that all the time with friends--those were some of the best memories!

Thanks for solving my latest delima - whether or not a pedicure is a necessity. We're trying not to spend unnecessary money. Now I know.

Wait. You have good friends besides us interpeeps???

And I'm dying for details on the vacation plans. Do tell.

Sounds like it's been a good one. You could probably do without the birds, though.

I'm so glad about the hotels. I remember when Chase told us the RV would have little drawers with everything in them, and you'd NEVER have to get out! Hotels have clean sheets and towels every night, and waste baskets that someone else empties. Worth every penny!

We had an RV road trip planned too this summer, to Seattle and back and all points in between...it was to be 2 wks of family togetherness! And now it is on the backburner because of the gas prices. I filled up my Suburban today at 4.07/gallon and it cost me over a hundred bucks and it wasn't even all the way empty.

And I thought of you Friday...I was at Sam's and guess what they were sampling? Beneful Dog Food, in all of it's moist and stinky splendor. I didn't try any.

I definitely want that recipe. I tried the at-home-pedicure one time. Never again. I had bloody heels and it hurt like you know what.

Food storage, we finally caved and ordered it from an internet web site. It's safely tucked away in our basement.

Caramel Bars...sounds yummy!

Pulling the dryer out a bit will help with the drying time? "Splain" this to me.

Books...Food Storage...Protein?

I love baseball, nice hotels, pedicures, and warm chocolate chip cookies.

I hate the gas prices. I spent $120 filling up yesterday. Yikes!

Yes, i want to hear more about this vacation. We have annoyingly happy birds at 5am too. And annoying happy kids at 6am. Not a good combo.

I think you can trade books for food...the people will get bored and you can use the pages for kindling and toilet paper! Oooh, I'm feeling better about my food storage!

Thank you for sharing what you learned last week...because I learned a lot from what you shared!

The part about the dryer was amazing. I suspect you have started a revolution!

Yeah, for your strike out pitching son! That is so exciting :)

Loved the wording of the, "TINY BIRD LUNGS!" You always make me laugh...

I am with you on books. I do have storage but...I have more books. I am obsessed with books. What are your favorites?

Oh YES...the carmel bars. LOVE EM. thanks for the recipe.

nice to hear that the gas crisis is working out so well for you!

yes, self pedicures - not meant to be.

and carmel bars? yes, please.

CJ, the Purple Diva said...

Yeah, I would agree with you on the self pedicures as well. I tried it once...and you are right, never again.
Books love them Just gave a ton of them away. Thinking about getting more of them, for storage you know! :-)
And yes, the dryer thing does work.
Love to have the recipe for the bars. Will they work on the nursery kids too? :-)

I'm a book hoarder, too - stacks and stacks of 'em all over the place. And magazines.

Pedicures - I was in Walgreens and bought one of those 'As seen on tv' things called a Ped-Egg. Best $10 I've ever spent. My feet are as smooth as a baby's bottom and it's so fast & easy to use.

Is THAT why it takes so %#$%&@ long for my clothes to dry?! It's been taking 60 mins! And all I have to do is pull it out a little?

Genius.

Amz said...

OOooo! I hate dry heals...mine do that too!

Tiny bird lungs....what's the word? Not an oxymoron, not an allegory...oh I know...annoying.

PS I have a cat who will take a field trip and kill them, he'll leave them on your porch though. But a dead bird is better than a noisy one.
