Touches of home

Our frames and mats for the photo wall in the formal living room arrived this week. Thought I'd share them with you, dear internets (and I'd like to praise the Husband's fine mathematics skills which prevented me from putting about 9,508 holes in my wall while hanging these. Yes, there actually is a good use for math. Shocking, I know.):

And here is what we have done in the dining room. The pictures on this wall are all of places we have lived. We have scoured historical society archives, stock photos, and even begged one photo off a family member (thanks, Scott!) in order to get what we wanted from each city. The center frame says, "Home," and underneath that, "is where the heart is." After six states and three countries, we are living proof of that. (And you can see it much better from a different angle - still trying to figure out what to do with that chandelier.)

And for fun, here is what I put up in the mudroom (which you walk through to go from the garage into the kitchen, so nobody will even see it but me). I found these fun vinyl letters through Tip Junkie. I am sure everyone else in the free world already knows about these, but they were quite new and exciting to me.

There's more work to be done, but little-by-little this place is starting to take shape and feel like ours. We've got the counters coming this Thursday - so expect some more photos then. I am practically counting the seconds until the pink is gone.
Happy Monday everyone!

It's really fun watching your house take shape...I love everything you've done so far! Can I hire you to come decorate my house?

Oh, I love it!! The photo collage is gorgeous. Of course it helps to have beautiful children in the pics too. According to my sister-in-law, the vinyl letters are all the rage in Utah. She introduced them to me and apparently a friend of hers actually has the machine to make them herself. btw- which three countries have you guys lived in??

B,

I've only lived in the US. We put pictures up of Denmark (the husband's mission), England (his family lived there for a year while his dad got a master's at York), and the six states we've lived in in the US. It makes the wall look much more impressive with all the exotic European destinations though.

How fun is that?! Good idea! I can't wait to see what you do with your kitchen. Have fun! (I know how much fun it is to have workmen in your house all day long, but it will be great when you're all done!)

I just love it Stie. Love the kid picture, destinations, letters, everything. I have lived here 2 1/2 years and am still not as put together as you . . . I'm coming to grips that I will never be but you always give me will to do more.

I don't think it looks that good.

Dan, I think you would like it a little better if I had a giant picture of you up, right? I'd do it, but I don't want to frighten the children, you know.

Wow, I love these! I had been trying to work on a photo collage in my hallway, they are not easy! Yours turned out beautifully. I also love the idea of photos of all the places you've lived.

Let me just say--STUNNING walls!! Love both the beautiful arrangements--so glad hubs planned that out for you--I'm more of a wing it--see what happens-type, which would soooo not work for that!

I'll have to check out those cool vinyl letters, they add a nice touch.

This looks so good! I love the photo collage of the kids! I imagine that it would take forever to line up those pictures....

A great website for the vinyl lettering is www.ldsvinyl.com They have a ton of fonts, colors, phrase, designs and projects. And they will do custom orders. And they are cheap. Love them!

I love, love, love the picture arrangement above your sofa. Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the frames that you used and the overall dimensions for the collage?
