Top o' the mornin to ye

Growing up, it was inevitable to wake up on St. Patrick's Day and find that everything in the fridge had been dyed green. My father especially took great delight in serving up green pancakes (or hotcakes, as he still calls them), green waffles, green eggs -- green everything.

I could stomach most of the green food. Green pancakes? Weird, yes, but they still tasted good. My brain could be fooled into taking that first bite, especially once I drowned them in lovely, un-dyeable, brown syrup.

But the one thing that I could never choke down, no matter what, was the green milk. Milk was not something I particularly enjoyed anyway, and having to stare down a tall glass of murky, green liquid was just about torture for a 14-year-old girl.

Torture almost as painful as, say, wholesome family activities at Air Force Museums in the dead heat of summer.

So when the morning dawned bright and sunny, with a smile I thought of my Dad, and just couldn't help myself.

And guess what, Dad?

They gagged on it as much as I did (though their smiles here are only because they hurried up and got dressed in their green so they could run around like trolls, pinching the rest of us).

Happy St. Paddy's Day, friends.

May your sugar cookies be green and shaped like shamrocks, and may your milk be frothy and white.

As god intended.

Green milk is just not right.

Sam left this morning, insisting on wearing a too-small green cowboy hat. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that no one makes fun of him. It really could go either way. (Hey!This would make a good Facebook status!)

Happy St. Paddy's day!

I thought about green milk too but the thought of it made my stomach turn. Your boys are so handsome. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I got pinched by trolls (I love how you used the term "troll") , too!! I was...*ahem* using the facilities, as it were, when the door flung open and Adam pinched me in the arm while I was still on the throne in my pajamas. I should have worn green to bed last night.

You do have some handsome trolls, however.

I didn't do anything fun for St. Patricks day. I'd love some sugar cookies too. Your boys look great!

You and my sister, Kim, would be best friends. She gags just reading my blog every time I talk about dying the milk colors. We do it for every holiday. I think it is so fun and will even drink it!

I love your milk jars. Beautiful.

Very handsome trolls you have!
Where was the trollete?

I thought of dying our milk, but couldn't stomach it. I like milk unadulterated. But I feel a little guilty for not being fun and making green pancakes. Maybe I'll make the rice green for dinner. yeck. maybe not.

YUCK! Green milk, NO WAY! I'm with you on that one, some things just aren't meant to be green.

Your trolls are cute. My three trolls are off playing with friends :)

Sounds like I'd really get along with your dad!

Green milk makes me think of sour milk. Did you check the expiration date? I had a green salad for lunch. That totally counts.

There is just something wrong with that picture. Great memories though and thanks for sharing.

I'm having a hankering for sugar cookies & milk.

We did green frosting on our cupcakes and green food coloring in the toilet. That was enough for me. Green milk sounds very yucky. Then again I don't like white milk either so what do I know?

Milk kind of makes me gag even when it's the right color, but green milk...uggh. Love the milk jug!

At least your milk jug wasn't full! A gallon of green milk...yuck!

Cute boys, cute memories! The only thing I colored green was the toilet water. The twins think the leprechauns forgot to flush...

Love that you did the green milk thing anyway, just for old times sake. Your Dad sounds special. Your boys look so handsome in their green. Darn I forgot to take of picture of mine and all we did was have donuts with green sprinkles.. and WE ARE Irish! We must do better next year.

You have always been the Leprechaun type! It looks like you had a lucky day.

You think snow in March is very, very wrong? Green milk: that is very, very wrong. (Your boys are too cute. Do you think they are too old to marry Zoey?)

ooh, that is GREEN. Our milk is more of the subtle, "Does that look off to you?" variety. Happy Spring Stie!

Green milk would totally trigger my gag reflex. But I'm sure your dad apreciates the gesture though.

We did not go as green for St. Pat's. Annelise got to eat Lucky Charms and wore a green shamrock
shirt. You think we over did it.
