Things I learned this week

  • Raking leaves before the trees are all bare is a very, very stupid thing. You WILL be raking again.
  • Paying your children to help you rake is a good idea.
  • In theory.
  • They will want to play in every pile they make. Thus voiding all your hard work.
  • And costing you money.
  • When you are having a fight with The Husband, it is a good idea if he actually knows about the fight. Otherwise, you end up pouting and stewing for nothing.
  • Having spiritual friends is a good thing. They will find creative ways to get your sorry soul to important church meetings like Saturday night stake conference.
  • And you will still like them in spite of this.
  • When The Husband buys a fire pit for the backyard, you should never let him "just get it started" inside. He will come very close to burning a hole in the floor.
  • You should still try to like him in spite of this.
  • Hiding the Halloween candy will not help you ignore it. You see, HALLOWEEN CANDY IS DELICIOUS, and it calls to you with its sweet, chocolate siren song.
  • Favorite thing this week: Listening to my baby girl read ME stories for a change.

the halloween candy is calling to you too?

Oh, Stie. So funny. I know someone in an old ward (did I tell you this already?) who gave her husband the silent treatment for several days, only to learn he hadn't even noticed! In fact he had enjoyed the "quiet time." Husbands must be on the same page with us on this or else it's wasted energy...

Brad just assumes by now that he is in trouble every day. He walks around very apologetic. I like having this upper hand...

I know nothing about leaf raking, but I am well versed in paying kids to be yelled at by me to finish a job.

I know only a little about spiritual friends. I know I'm not one of them. Can I borrow yours?

Shouldn't husbands just KNOW when we are mad at them and exactly what the fight is about without us having to tell them? I've been very sad this week that we left all the Halloween candy in Tennessee...I'm tempted to go buy myself some more...I think I will. I love your lists!

Oooh...lots of good ones here. I can relate to letting the Husband know about the fight first. That's a biggie!

And the raking...ah, the raking. Made that very mistake last year. This year I'm waiting until spring!

I too am mesmerized by that chocolate siren song. I keep telling myself that I am going to throw it away, but I am having a hard time parting with it!

Hm. Will you hire me to rake your leaves. Sounds like a good job, at your house anyway.

Fabulous lessons learned. Hope that stake conference was worth it. It my mind the speakers need to be SO SO good in order to justify not only my time, but the money we're forking out for a babysitter at home.

I made the raking mistake too. I have no children to pay. The times I regret not having kids are when there are chores and when there are Disney movies I want to see.

Christie you rock girl. Every time I read your blog I wish you lived in Chicago.

Did you pay them by the tonnage? Or will payment be rendered once the last leaf falls?

Sadly many, many husbands miss out on all the "clues" left for them. :)

I'm still in sugar shock from last week. Not pretty.

We are kindred spirits...I am so glad you understand the Reese's PB Egg infatuation! Also, I too try to hide the candy from myself. I have sirens going off all too often. Can't wait for the stuff to disappear, but don't have the guts to make it.

Our leaves are just beginning to change and some are falling. In a few weeks our house will be covered, since we have a forest in the backyard. Maybe I'll just count on the wind to hopefully blow them into the neighbors yard. As for the chocolate....it has been calling to me from the cupboard since Robyn left. I don't have to hide it from the kids, but someone needs to hide it from me!

Last Saturday, your Mom was watching your tormentor brother’s kids while I did some yard work. When I had a pile of leaves taller than Hailey or Bryce, I asked if they wanted to come and jump in the leaves, but they didn't want to leave their inside play to jump in the leaves. I couldn’t pay them to jump in the leaves—go figure. When you don’t want them to do something they do, and when you are willing they couldn’t care less.
